What the code means
Easy running clearance. More play than H7/g6; typical of lightly loaded rotating shafts.
Formula
H8 at Ø20 mm
ES / EI +33 / 0 µm
IT8 = 33 µm
Limits 20.000 / 20.033 mm
Ø20 H8
H8/f7 at Ø20 mm
Clearance (running) fit. Clearance is hole minus shaft (negative = interference).
- Hole H8: 20.000–20.033 mm
- Shaft f7: 19.959–19.980 mm
- Maximum clearance 74 µm
- Minimum clearance 20 µm
How we use this in the toolroom
A shaft that must drop into a bored hole with oil and spin without a scrape is H8/f7. We do not use it for dowels or for a punch that has to stay on centre.
The numbers come from ISO 286 tables, the same charts Accurate Industries uses in Pune for dies, moulds and precision tooling. AlwaysReach is the browser version of that lookup — see our story.
