Convert a SolidWorks part to STEP or IGES

Choose a .SLDPRT part. The converter reads the part in this tab and writes STEP AP214 and IGES 5.3. Flat faces become exact planes. Cylinders, cones, round holes and their circular edges are exact when the part stores those surfaces. Spheres, fillets and other blends stay faceted, and so does a part that has no surface record. Feature trees, mates and configurations are not converted. .SLDASM assemblies and .SLDDRW drawings are not converted. The STEP file saves as .step, .stp or .ste. The IGES file saves as .igs or .iges. Parasolid .x_t and .x_b, CATIA, Inventor, NX, JT, ACIS, Rhino, Pro/ENGINEER, 3D Studio, DGN, WMF and PDF are not written.

Open the STEP or IGES download in the STEP & IGES Viewer to orbit the solid and check a length, diameter, radius or angle. After conversion, View STEP and View IGES open that file in the viewer, and Download saves the same STEP or IGES file. Weigh it with the STEP file weight calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Is my SolidWorks file uploaded?+

No. The .SLDPRT part is read in this tab and the STEP and IGES files are built on your device. Nothing is sent to AlwaysReach.

Are cylinders, holes and fillets exact?+

Cylinders, cones, round holes and their circular edges are exact when the part stores those surfaces. Spheres, fillets and other blends follow the display mesh, so those regions are faceted. A part with no surface record is faceted too. The feature tree, mates and configurations are not converted.

Can I convert an assembly or a drawing?+

No. .SLDASM assemblies and .SLDDRW drawings are refused. Save or export the part as a .SLDPRT file first. This page converts one part.

What can I do with the STEP or IGES file?+

Download either file and open it in the STEP & IGES viewer to check a length, diameter, radius or angle, or weigh it in the STEP file weight calculator. Other CAD systems can import the same STEP or IGES file. View STEP and View IGES on this page open that file in the viewer. Download saves the same file as .step, .stp, .ste, .igs or .iges.

Which extensions are the STEP and IGES downloads?+

STEP is one AP214 file saved as .step, .stp or .ste. IGES is one 5.3 file saved as .igs or .iges. Choose the extension the CAD save list shows.

Can I convert SLDPRT to Parasolid .x_t or .x_b?+

Parasolid text (.x_t) and Parasolid binary (.x_b) are not written. Download the STEP file (.step, .stp or .ste). SolidWorks, NX and other CAD systems import that STEP file. CATIA, Inventor, JT, ACIS, Rhino, Pro/ENGINEER, 3D Studio, DGN, WMF and PDF are not written either.

Why would a part be refused?+

Files over 64 MB, parts whose display mesh is over 80,000 triangles, and files that are not a SolidWorks .SLDPRT part are refused so the browser stays usable. A part with no readable display mesh needs to be exported to STEP or IGES from SolidWorks.
