What the code means
Transition. Depending on actual sizes, the pair may have a few micrometres of clearance or a light press.
Formula
H7 at Ø20 mm
ES / EI +21 / 0 µm
IT7 = 21 µm
Limits 20.000 / 20.021 mm
Ø20 H7
H7/k6 at Ø20 mm
Transition fit. Clearance is hole minus shaft (negative = interference).
- Hole H7: 20.000–20.021 mm
- Shaft k6: 20.002–20.015 mm
- Maximum clearance 19 µm
- Minimum clearance -15 µm (can be a press)
How we use this in the toolroom
We use H7/k6 for a pin that must not spin in service but that we still want to drive out for maintenance. True locked bushes are p6/s6.
The numbers come from ISO 286 tables, the same charts Accurate Industries uses in Pune for dies, moulds and precision tooling. AlwaysReach is the browser version of that lookup — see our story.
