Quote a STEP file

STEP Weight & Dimension Checker

Open a STEP/STP file to see the 3D model, overall size, volume and estimated weight. Click two points on the part to check any dimension. Built for fast quotations for sales and admin teams.

Your file is processed locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

STEP weight & dimensions

Drop a .STEP / .STP file to see the model, size and weight.

The 3D model stays on this device. After it loads, click two points to check any dimension.

Quotation from a STEP file

Sales and admin teams often need envelope size and a mass before a machinist opens CAD. Upload the STEP to see the 3D model, pick mild steel, aluminium, stainless or a custom density, and copy a summary: bounding box, volume and estimated weight. Click two points on the part to check a hole, edge or span — wherever you need it. The file never leaves the browser.

Overall size is the axis-aligned box of the tessellated solid (millimetres in, inches optional). A checked dimension is the 3D distance between two clicks, plus ΔX, ΔY and ΔZ. Weight is mesh volume times density — the same densities as the material weight calculator. Treat it as a quotation estimate, not a certified shipping weight. For a larger inspect-only canvas, open the same file in the STEP viewer.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the weight from a STEP file?+

Volume is computed from the tessellated triangle mesh (closed solids from Open CASCADE), then multiplied by the material density. That is a quotation estimate, not a certified scale reading. Fine fillets and coarse tessellation change the last few percent.

What are the dimensions?+

Overall size is the axis-aligned bounding box of the mesh in millimetres (STEP default). You can switch the display to inches. Longest/mid/shortest are the box edges sorted, useful for packing and envelope quotes.

Can I check a dimension on a hole, edge or span I care about?+

Yes. After the model loads, click (or tap) two points on the 3D view. The tool snaps to a nearby corner of the tessellated face when you are close, then reports the 3D distance plus ΔX, ΔY and ΔZ. Drag to orbit; a click that does not hit the solid is ignored. Use Clear to start again.

Does the file leave my computer?+

No. The CAD engine runs in WebAssembly in the browser, the same as the STEP viewer. Sales and admin staff can quote without sending the model to a server.
